No nation is exempt from the possibility of a natural disaster or catastrophy that could reshape a landscape forever. No soul is untouched when such a disaster strikes home--be it an earthquake, volcano, tsunami, hurricane, tornado, flood, or storm.

But after the death tolls are confirmed and the destruction measured what is long remembered is not the images of carnage or devastation but how the people responded. The people of Japan along with the rest of the world will have an opportunity on March 11, 2012 to reflect on and remember the response to Japan's devastating earthquake a year ago which triggered a tsunami which led to a nuclear meltdown which drew the attention of the world.

In preparation of the day of observance, events are being planned around the world reflecting on the impact of the disaster and the resilience of the people from the "Land of the Rising Sun." Events will also document the worldwide response--the initial outreach, the continued efforts of relief and support, and the scientific community's ongoing response to the subesequent environmental crisis.

As the days to the observance wind down, Twitter has become an internet billboard informing the international community of upcoming events in the U.S. and around the world.

If you read Japanese newspaper in Japanese you'd be amazed how little they have reported about this scandal/fraud. (See tweeps' excellent explanations below.) Not a few Japanese people have now turned to "foreign media" to follow the news.

Note: Here on chirpstory I can't include Japanese tweets because the system rejects Japanese characters (hiragana and katakana). So if it looks as though there were no Japanese tweets whatsoever on the matter, it is due to the website's restrictions.
